Dear Parent/ Carer,

If your child has been identified as a household contact of a confirmed positive case of COVID-19, Leicestershire County Council & UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) request that you perform the following:

  • Take your child to have a PCR test because your child has been identified as a close contact of a positive case of coronavirus. All close contacts of cases, age 4 or over, are being asked to have a PCR test to reduce the spread of the virus. This can be arranged by visiting https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test.
  • As an additional measure, your child should take daily lateral flow device (LFD) tests until the end of the positive case self-isolation period – unless symptoms develop. Around 1 in 3 people with COVID-19 do not have symptoms. LFDs can be ordered from https://www.gov.uk/order-coronavirus-rapid-lateral-flow-tests. Rapid lateral flow tests help to find cases in people who may have no symptoms but are still infectious and can give the virus to others. Anyone in your household can use the tests.

If your child is well and has no COVID-19 symptoms, they should continue to attend school or college as long as their LFD test results remain negative. Keeping students in the classroom in the coming months is a Government priority, both for their immediate and longer-term wellbeing. However, children who receive a positive PCR test should isolate immediately.

If your child’s LFD result is positive, they should also isolate immediately and book a PCR test to confirm their result.

This request applies only to students who have not tested positive within the past 90 days.

Thank you very much for your support.  Taking a COVID test is very important to help control this virus.

With best wishes
