Birch Wood Vale School Sports Day 2022

Dear Parents and Guardians

On Tuesday 28th June, Birch Wood School will be hosting our annual sports day. We are eager to make the day a success for our students after another quite unprecedented year we have had. This will be a day of celebration for sporting achievements and for students to showcase all of their hard work in PE this year.

Our theme for Sports Day is the Commonwealth Games. This year’s games are being held in Birmingham from the Thursday 28th July – Monday 8th August so we are using our Sports Day to raise the profile of the games to our students. It would be fantastic if over the summer you were able to encourage students to follow this event too!

The pupils will be taking part in different sporting activities throughout the day both in the classroom and on the playground; the field activities will take place on the Astro at Melton Sports Village. This is located close to school and is just a short walk.

On this day, your child will be able to come dressed in their PE kit or sports clothes, including appropriate footwear, hat and sun cream, and a refillable water bottle. As part of our Commonwealth theme we are asking students to represent a Commonwealth country. Melton and Belvoir Sport have selected each school in the area to represent a Commonwealth country and our schools country is Jamaica! We are therefore asking students to wear dark bottoms and either a green or yellow top for Sports day to represent our given country!

Due to the limited space available, we are unable to invite parents and guardians to watch the event like in previous years. Staff will however endeavour to take as many videos and photos as possible and upload to Kinteract so you can share some of the experiences with your child. You can also support your child by discussing sports day with them and giving them plenty of encouragement ahead of the day.

We hope to have your support to celebrate what our students have achieved within PE this year, your support means a lot to the children and helps to make it one of the highlights of the year.

Yours sincerely

Alison Nix and Joe Knowles
