Autism Acceptance Week

Monday 28th March until Friday 1st April

Dear Parents/ Carers,

Autism Acceptance week is on Monday 28th March until Friday 1st April. This year the world Autism Acceptance week is celebrating a shift in focus, from raising awareness, to increasing acceptance and understanding of Autism. Whilst also celebrating 60 years of the NAS! As part of the 60 year celebration the week is focused on 60 challenges. At Birch Wood we thought it would be amazing to join in and have a week of challenges and celebration.

During the week, your child will take part in different challenges as part of their class. We will end our Autism Acceptance week on Friday 1st April with a “The Celebration of Me” day.  Students are invited to wear their favourite clothes to celebrate them. This day is all about celebrating our wonderful students and who they are!

As part of our Autism Acceptance week we are wanting to challenge our whole community to take part in a personal challenge within the week. Our target is to get 60 members of the school community to take part in a challenge and send in a picture of them completing the challenge for our Facebook page. This challenge might be in the way of learning a new skill or trying something new, the possibility of challenge is endless. Please send your challenge pictures to Poppy Marriott at marriottp1@birchwoodschool.co.uk.

If you have any questions regarding Autism Acceptance Week, please don’t hesitate to contact us,

Many thanks,

Poppy Marriott, Lisa Goddard and Robbie Hesketh
