Whilst Birch Wood has access to NHS SALTs, sometimes a different or additional SALT support is required for a particular student; this is where Steph, our independent SALT, can advise and support both students and the class team. Steph can work with various students to support their communication and understanding that may not be identified in their EHCP. Steph works predominantly within the autism provision at Grange Drive and Ashton House but also support students with additional needs within the general school setting.
Steph further supports students who access an augmentative and alternative means of communication (AAC) and can help to support the use of specialised equipment thus enabling a student to more effectively and successfully communicate.
Steph is always willing to offer advice, information and training where necessary to parents, teachers and other members of staff involved in a child’s care.
