PE & Sports Higher Level Teaching Assistant/ Senior Teaching Assistant

Birch Wood Special School is at an exciting point in its development; we are rapidly expanding our provision across the school to meet local demand. We are looking for highly committed and flexible PE & Sports Higher Level Teaching Assistant/ Senior Teaching Assistantto join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to further develop PE and Sport within a 4-19 special education setting. The position would require:

  • The delivery of PE to all groups at our Grange Drive Site
  • Running activities such as swimming, hydro therapy, therapeutic horse riding & after school sports clubs
  • Taking groups of students to sporting events
  • Organising PE / Sports administration
  • Break/lunchtime play leading with groups of students
  • Occasional short term cover of classes across the school if needed. 

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Passionate about inclusion and providing students with complex SEND with opportunities for sporting activities.
  • Confident to coach, eager to understand young people with SEND.
  • Possibly has experience in supporting children with special educational needs and disabilities. Knowledge of MATP/MOVE beneficial
  • Good communication skills 
  • Experienced in supporting across different age groups and successful whole class lesson delivery.
  • Able to support student behaviour positively.
  • Fully committed to meeting the needs of all students
  • Able to inspire and challenge students and motivate others by example
  • Positive in their attitude and willing to make a significant contribution to raising standards across the school.
  • Committed to working with all members of the school community, particularly with parents, our PE Teacher and leaders
  • Eager to take a full and active part in all aspects of school life
  • Will share our aspirational ‘can do’ culture
  • Raise the profile of PE / Sport within the school community, providing students with opportunities to take part in a wide variety of sporting events.
  • Passionate about making learning experiences exciting, memorable and fun.
  • A willingness to learn new skills 

You will have:

  • English & Maths GCSE grade C/5 or above
  • Relevant Sport/PE qualifications
